St. Patrick’s Day on River Road

Now that we’ve entered March, we have reached the time of year where we start planning for St. Patrick’s Day. Where do we go? What’s on the menu? Will there be music?
The answer to the first question is Rivara’s. They have been celebrating St. Patrick’s Day for over 40 years with their Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner, the first of which was held in 1974 and cost only $1.00. They served over 600 meals that night, including a woman who arrived in a chauffeured limousine who painstakingly dug through her purse to find her dollar.
This year, Rivara’s will be serving their corned beef and cabbage, as well as potatoes, and Irish soda bread in their main dining room. The cost per person will be $20.95. The entertainment for the evening will be Just a Bunch of Banjoes, featuring Bob Leive and Marge Bauman. They are scheduled to play from 5:30pm to 9:00pm.
If you prefer something more casual than a sit down dinner, then you can choose to have your meal at the Owl Pub instead. Menu items for St. Patrick’s Day will be Irish bangers, shepherd’s pie and the Owl Pub’s signature Danish baby back ribs. Entertainment for the evening will be The #1 Combo Band.
Rivara’s and the Owl Pub are located at 6-18 Maple Ave in the River Rd district. If you’d like to know more about their events, feel free to contact them at 201-797-4878 or visit their website.
