The River Road District in Fair Lawn calls itself the borough’s “neighborhood business district.” Like most thriving neighborhood’s, the district owes much of its friendly, welcoming ambiance to the many family owned businesses and restaurants that call River Road home.

gotlieb2Gotlieb Hearing Center was founded by Talia Gotlieb more than 20 years ago and has been a fixture in the River Road District since 1990. Her son, Erez Gotlieb, who serves as the company’s president, noted that Gotlieb Hearing Center recently moved from one of the district’s oldest buildings to one of the newest. Now located in the River House Condo’s at 13-19 River Road, the new location offers the same convenience to its customers in a more modern and comfortable setting that provides easy access and lots of free parking nearby.

“Many of our customers are seniors who know and trust us when they need help purchasing a hearing device or having one serviced,” noted Erez Gotlieb. “We provide both retail services at our River Road office and work on location at many local nursing homes and assisted living facilities, so we are pleased to be able to continue serving our customers in Fair Lawn and beyond in our new location.”

River Road’s ABA Insurance Agency is another family run business that has called the district home since 2009. Founded by Salikha Berkovich, with support provided by her son-in-law, Bernie Lemberg, the company offers both personal and business insurance in addition to notary and payroll services and Russian language document translations. Berkovich believes it is the personalized service, along with River Road’s easy access and plentiful parking that has helped her company grow.

“We review your current policies and make sure that you are properly protected and covered,” she pointed out. “If you think that you are paying high insurance rates or your coverage is insufficient, we can review your polices and try to save you money by offering you insurance coverage that is suited to your personal and business needs and will save you money.”

It’s a family affair at the Allstate Insurance Agency on River Road as well.  Owned by longtime Agent Garrie Thissen, the company is part of a long list of professional service providers that are part of the diverse mix of businesses, restaurants and service providers in the River Road District.

One of the things Thissen likes best about working with Allstate is the variety of products and services he can offer customers, including a variety of solutions to address their financial needs – such as saving for a child’s education or retirement.

“Our family has worked closely with Allstate for years to help people with their insurance needs – from homes to auto to boats and more,” he pointed out. “Our quality, service-oriented agency is not only owned and operated by a family, customers tell us we make them feel like family too.”

Bob Landzettel of Landzettel and Sons on River Road and President of the River Road Improvement Corporation (RRIC) said there are dozens of family businesses, including his own, that help define the district. “Family owned businesses have been contributing to the local community for many years, and will continue to help make the River Road District attractive and important for consumers who want to dine and shop locally,” he concluded.
